This is the first in a new series of lectures and discussions that will feature artists in conversation, discussing the work they are showing at the gallery. The aim of this series is to bring the artwork exhibited in the municipal space closer to the community. Luan Gallery want to help break down barriers between artist and audience.
Manager of Athlone Art and Heritage Aedin McGinn said:

‘We are looking forward to bringing the Ask the Artist series to life. It is a great opportunity to bring artists closer to their audience. These sorts of conversations are of particular benefit for challenging exhibitions like Paul’s which involves installations, lasers and magnets. It is an opportunity to learn about the processes of the artist, discover how they work and ask questions about their practice. These participatory style events also go a long way in helping to create a comfort with the arts and dispel any misguided notions of elitism or inaccessibility. Anyone who has ever wondered about how artists work or how they arrive at their finished pieces would enjoy these informal talks’.

This episode will be led by Catherine Ivers from Athlone Community Radio who, in casual conversation will find out the thought process behind Paul’s artwork. The floor will then be open to questions from the audience. The episode will be recorded live and broadcasted on air with Athlone Community Radio.

To generate the interest in this discussion Luan Gallery invite the public to join them on the day and send questions through twitter @AthArtHeritage.
The talk is open to public, free of charge and will happen on Saturday the 8th of March from 1pm to 2pm. Pre booking is advised to avoid disappointment.
